CASP - PLAN PROJECT, PUNE
• PO 5703- School Garden Project IND0173 :
- It was proposed to establish school garden in 20 govt. primary schools (10 in FY 08, 10 in FY 09). But in FY 08, work of 19 school gardens was completed & the work of 20 th school garden was completed by the end of Dec. 08. Now as more schools are requesting to participate in school garden project & as the budget permits, four more schools are selected for school garden under this project. They are namely of the villages Tikonapeth, Navlakh-umbre, Varale & Divad in Jan 09.
- The plan estimates have been prepared & work of civil components like land development & the supply of material like red soil & bricks were done for these four schools in Jan 09.
- The civil works are in progress at the four newly proposed school gardens of Varale, Navlakhumbre, Divad & Tikonapeth villages. In Feb 09 land was prepared by spreading the red soil for planting the lawn & the bricks were arranged for planting trees. Garden equipments were provided to these four schools. Meetings were held in the schools with children, teachers & Village Education Committee (VEC) members in connection with the implementation of the works related to the school gardens.
- At the Rajewadi & Done villages the village water supply scheme is not presently functioning. As the summer season is started the plants & lawn in school garden need to be water regularly. Hence special arrangement for watering is made & water is being provided by cart load in Mar 09.
- In Mar 09, l awn is planted in two new school gardens of Divad & Varale villages & the preparations for the same have been made in the other two new school gardens of Tikonapeth & Navlakhumbre villages.
- In Mar 09 at the school garden of Kalhat village the lawn is shifted from where it was originally planted to the other place in the garden where watering the lawn is more convenient.

• PO 5713- Health & HIV/AIDS Interventions :
- A training program on child to child health was conducted for 50 children coming from 4 secondary schools in Feb 09 . The children learnt about how to spread health messages especially related to Water & Environmental Sanitation (WES) & personal & community hygiene among children & the village communities.
- In Feb 09, m onthly meeting of the HIV+ve persons was held & it was attended by 65 persons. A block level network meeting was held at Velhe in this month . HIV/AIDS network meetings were held at the Velhe & Mulshi blocks and in Pune city in Mar 09.
- The Dnyanada Mahila Vikas Mandal organized a women's meet on health & TB awareness in collaboration with the Pune District TB Eradication Committee with support from PU. Total 200 women attended the meet. This event was organized to observe the World TB Day in Mar 09.
- Assistance was provided for small business development to three families affected by HIV/AIDS in Mar 09.
- In Mar 09, a meet of women affected by HIV/AIDS was organized to celebrate the world women's day. Eighty women & 20 men attended the meet. There were sessions on parent to child transmission, TB, personal care & nutrition in this meet addressed by expert resource persons & govt. officials.

PO 5714- Peoples' participation for better education :
- In Feb 09, a workshop of some selected support class teachers & field supervisors was conducted to prepare a module to train village youths on conducting support classes in future. Similarly one workshop was conducted to develop a module on training of ECCD workers.
- Annual general meeting of the CBO Maval Vidya Vahini was held in Feb 09.
- In Feb 09, interviews of the VEC members of 20 villages were conducted on the issue of implementation of the ‘Education for All' program.
PO 5715 - Children's right to participate :
- Twenty children from 2 villages were taken to Pune to see a cultural program of dance competition of children & youth held at Pune in Feb 09.
- Meetings were held with Balpanchayat groups in 5 villages in Feb 09.
PO 5716 - Habitat & Livelihood :
- An exposure visit of total 20 PRI, CBO & SHG members was organized in Jan 09 to see the exemplary work done by village communities in the area of Water & Environmental Sanitation (WES) and Watershed Development (WSD). The projects of two NGOs located in Ahmednagar district were visited.
- The work of repairing of the barbed wire fencing of the Farmers' Training Center (FTC) was done in Jan 09 as a part of infrastructure development. In Jan 09, the demo-plots of vegetables continued at FTC.
- In Feb 09, a meeting of women SHG & CBO leaders and PRI members & office bearers of the litigation free committees was held to know about the functioning & the progress of the litigation free committees of 20 villages. This meeting was attended by 41 persons.
- In Feb 09, m eetings on implementation of WES awareness were held in 6 villages participating in this program. In Mar 09, WES action & awareness program was implemented in six villages.
- One exposure visit of 38 women SHG members was arranged in Feb 09 to visit good work done by women SHGs promoted by an NGO in Sangali. The visiting women were very much impressed on seeing the various income generation activities which were being done by the members of different SHGs. Another exposure visit of women SHG leaders was organized to know the good work done by another NGO in the field of women empowerment in Ahmednagar district in Mar 09.
- One business skills training program was conducted for 32 farmers from Yelghol village doing dairy business. One training program on goat rearing was conducted at village Kune in which 26 persons participated in Feb 09.
- A women's meet was organized by Dnyanada Mahila Vikas Mandal with support from PU on 4 th March 2009 to celebrate the World Women's Day of 8 th March 09. In this meet there were sessions on legal & gender awareness. This meet was attended by 100 women coming from 20 villages.
- In Mar 09, support was provided to two women SHGs for small business development & business skills training program was organized on Hi-tech green house & nursery raising techniques.
The repairing work of the check-dam at Adhale-bk village was done in Mar 09.

PO 5717 - Documentation of case-studies, film & celebration event :
- In Feb 09, the work of preparing case studies was in progress. The three consultants conducted the task of taking interviews of about 50 individuals by doing field visits as well as of the groups of the members of different CBOs.
- The ‘Celebration Event' organized on 20th March 2009 was the occasion to share the joy of successful completion of the sponsorship program. A book ‘Smiles of Success' containing 50 success stories of the sponsored children families and communities was released at the hands of Mr. Roland Angerer, Country Director & Dr. S. D. Gokhale, Founder President of CASP. Dr. Gokhale assured while speaking at this occasion that CASP would continue to extend co-operation to the local Community Based Organizations (CBOs) in resolving their problems on the path of further development. Some of the ex-sponsored children, community volunteers & representatives of the CBOs expressed their feelings of gratitude towards the CASP & Plan India. Mrs. Girija Sapre, the Executive Director of CASP took a review of CASP-Plan's work and welcomed the guests. Mr. Mukund Dudhale, Project Director of CASP-Plan project presented the vote of thanks.
Shooting for the video film on PU's achievements was done in various field locations in Mar 09.
