CASP Avert Project

One step ahead

Peer education is very important strategy in targeted intervention project for HIV/AIDS prevention aspects. We under CASP-Avert Project had trained 60 Peer educators through BIRD's hiv network & training centre. This institution has developed peer educators training module for all Avert funded NGO's.

On 22 nd March,2007 , we at CASP got an excellent opportunity from Avert Society to host “Peer Sankalpa Melava” for 35 NGO's from Mumbai and other districts of Maharashtra . The Peers from different targeted interventions like a slum base interventions, work place interventions, interventions with street children were invited for the Melava. Guest & resource persons were invited from Family Health International (FHI), Hindustan Latex Family Planning & Promotion Trust (HLAPPT) & Population services International (PSI). This melava was held at Green village resort, Malad (W), Mumbai-400095.

The objectives of the melava were as follows :

1. To provide platform for the peers from different intervention-NGO's to meet each other & facilitate interaction between them.

2. To provide opportunity to peer for learning.

3. To increase familiarity of the peers with BCC materials prepared by Avert Society.

It has been found total 283 people participated actively. The “PEER SANKALPA MELAVA was a highly successful programme & took forward both the capacity building of the peers & increased sustainability of the interventions as evident from comments & reports by the peer, the evaluation & forward planning data.
