In the current financial year of 2010 – 11, there are following projects in operation at the CASP-Mawal Unit.

1] CASP-CHAHA Project :

This project was launched in July 2007 as a part of Round VI of Global Fund. Objective of this project is to reduce mortality and morbidity rate of the children infected and affected by HIV/AIDS (CLHAs and CAAs).

Area of operation of this project is six blocks of Pune district. The blocks are namely Mawal, Velha, Mulshi, Khed, Ambegaon and Junnar.

Beneficiaries of the project are, at present, 942 CLHA and CAA children coming from 497 families. Among 942, there are 115 CLHAs (56 boys and 59 girls).

The children and their families are given psycho-social, nutritional, medical, educational, household and livelihood support.

At present, four staff members and 18 ORWs are implementing this project. The project is supported by Plan India, Alliance India and Global Fund.

In May 2010, as a part of the Global AIDS Action Week (GAWA), 20 children of the HIV positive parents in the age–group of 6 weeks to 18 months were tested for HIV.

2] CASP-AVERT Society Link Worker Scheme (LWS) Project :

Goal of this project is to build a community-centered model for rural areas in HIV prevention and care.

Objectives of the project are to halt and reverse the HIV epidemic by 2012, to reach out High Risk and Vulnerable population living in villages, to reduce stigma and discrimination of PLHIVs and advocate for availability of quality services.

The National AIDS Control Organization of India (NACO) is implementing this scheme at national level. In Maharashtra State presently 18 Districts are covered under the scheme. The Avert Society is the lead NGO for Maharashtra and CASP is the Implementing Agency in Pune District. Ten out of 13 blocs of Pune district and total 100 villages from the ten blocks have been selected as the project area.

The program is focused on the High Risk Groups (HRGs) such as female sex workers (FSWs), men in sex with men (MSMs), injecting drug users (IDUs) and the vulnerable population such as truckers and their spouses, migrants and their spouses, addict youths and people living with HIV and TB.

The programs include HIV/AIDS and STI awareness campaigns, identification of volunteers and formation of Red Ribbon Clubs, establishment of Information Centers and Condom Distribution Depots, identification and referral of HRG members and vulnerable persons to Integrated Testing and Counseling Centers and other treatment and support agencies.

The project is launched in March 2010. The project team includes eight staff members and 40 Link Workers.

3] The CASP- Plan India’s PPTCT Project :
Plan India under the guidance & direction of National AIDS Control Organization (NACO) has conceptualized an innovative project on PPTCT (Prevention of Parents to Child Transmission) which mainly focuses on community involvement to enhance the uptake of the health services at three locations at Pune, Ganjam and Mau in the States of Maharashtra, Orissa and Uttar Pradesh.

This project has been designed in the context of low uptake of PPTCT services and aims to strengthen this component of National HIV Plan of Govt. of India. 

 The project is a comprehensive approach to reach out to pregnant women, adolescent girls and children infected, affected by HIV/AIDS and vulnerable children through community volunteers and link them with comprehensive Care, Support and Treatment programs.

Plan India has chosen CASP as its partner for this project in the State of Maharashtra. CASP-Mawal Unit is implementing this project in Pune district in three blocks namely Mawal, Khed and Ambegaon.

The project is launched in May 2010. A team of nine staff members and ten Out Reach Workers are involved in this project.


4] Other Projects :
Two village development projects are in the offing with the support of two corporate sector bodies. One will be in Pune district and the other one in Satara district. The projects will be launched in June 2010.
