Sponsorship Project

Year 2006-07 was most difficult year in the history of CASP Pune Unit. CASP management decided to phase-out totally from CFN activities. CASP Pune Unit stopped working with CFN from 1 st April 2006. So case load came down up to 800 only. This was a shocking news for all staff members in the Unit. They were confused and worried out their future. Though more than 90% of staff were observed by CFI for their project in Pune this sudden change hampered almost all activities of CASP Pune Unit. Remaining staff members were fillings in-secured and it had affected on their work. Hence most of the activities were started late. Though schedule was delayed. We completed all activities as per plan.

1) Adolescent group activity :

CASP Pune Unit organized one-day workshop with Adolescent girls. Following topics were covered in this workshop.

•  Physical and mental changes during this period
•  Menstrual cycle and personal hygiene and health
•  Age of marriage. What is marriage?
•  Pregnancy and care
•  Family planning
•  Addiction and bad habits
•  S.T.D. (Sexual Transmitted Disease) symptoms and prevention
•  H.I.V./AIDS and sex educations

30 girls from age of 12 to 15 were participated in this workshop. Children expressed that the session was very useful and received lot of new knowledge.

Mrs. Smita Barve was resource person invited for this training workshop.

2) Training on Mehandi craft :
On the occasion of Republic day of India on 26 th January 2007 CASP Pune Unit organized one-day training workshop on Mehandi drawing and feeling Mehandi cons for sponsored girls. Total 12 girls participated in this workshop. We are proud to say that one of our sponsored child Miss. Poonam Pardeshi was resource person for this training workshop. All the participants enjoyed this workshop very much and learned to draw Mehandi on palm and feeling the Mehandi cons.

3) Workshop on Study skills :
On 30 th January 2007 CASP Pune Unit organized one-day workshop on study skill for the sponsored children who were going to appear for S.S.C. and H.S.C. board examination in the month of March 2007 total 15 students participated in this workshop. Resource person was Mrs. Smita Honap, who is vetron educationist and she is attached to Dnyan Prabodhini a reputed educational Institute in Pune. She covered topics like time management stress management, memory technique etc. through various methods such as charts, cartoons, formula puzzles etc.

4) Health check-up camp of sponsored children :
On 16 th February 2007 the medical check-up was organized in CASP Pune Unit for 100 sponsored children Dr. Mrs. Anita Joshi and Mr. Navathe were the expert invited for this health check-up camp. In this camp Dr. Mrs. Anita Joshi checked all children tharolly. Most of the children were normal only few were having minor illness. For that Dr. Joshi prescribed some medicines. Only few suspected cases were referred to specialist. Dr. Navathe is well knows pathologist who did blood testing of all children and he also did the blood grouping of all children. In this camp all the children received D`worming doses. This D`worming doses were provided by the Pune Municipal Corporation free of cost. Iron tablets were provided to girls who were anemic. In this camp CASP also distributed first aid kits to sponsored children.

5) Picnic for sponsored children :
On 2 nd March 2007 CASP Pune Unit organized a one-day picnic for sponsored children at ‘ Appughar Water Park '. Children enjoyed the picnic by playing various games in amusement park. They sung and they dance for the whole day. This was a different kind of exposure to the children.

6) Picnic for women :
CASP Pune Unit organized a one-day trip for mothers of our sponsored children. on 27 th February 2007 at Lonawala and Karle caves. The Karle is famous for temple of Godess ‘Ekvira Devi' and also famous for caves. Lonawala is hill station and picnic center. Most of the mothers don't go out of Pune for various reasons. This was a picnic cum exposure to this woman.

7) Cultural programme by sponsored children :
on 7 th March 2007 our sponsored children organized a cultural programme. This programme was witness by Mrs. Jette. A.C. International. She was chief guest for this programme. Mrs. R.S. Gokhale, Secretary CASP. Mrs. Girija Sapre Ex. Director CASP, Mrs. Sushama Joshi Asst. Exe. Director CASP. Children performed solo and group dances, song mimicry, one act play etc. Our sponsored child Miss. Shravani Kavitkar did the anchoring of this programme.

8) Science Exhibition :
Our sponsored children organized a one day Science exhibition in CASP Pune Unit Ms. Bhagyashree Machutre and Salama Kureshi prepared a model for blood circulation through heart. Mr. Rohan Kshirsagar presented his model on electrical energy from Aliva. Mr. Rohan Kshirsagar also exhibited the flood alert system prepared by him.

9) Birthday celebration of sponsored children :
On 7 th March CASP, Pune Unit celebrated birthday of five sponsored children in the presence of Mrs. Jette from A.C. International. Children cut cake and burst air balloons with lot of Hungama. More than 50 children were present to celebrate birthday party. All children sung a birthday song for celebrity children.


Special Programmes :-

1) NARI (National AIDS Research Institute) :
This is a collaborative research project of CASP and NARI. CASP is working in three communities called Janata Vasahat, Parvati Darshan and Rajiv Gandhi Nagar. This year 20 peer educators were working with CASP who were selected from the community it self. One peer educator is working with 500 families in a year for awareness to these families. This peer group also identify suspected H.I.V. cases which they are referring to NARI for further investigation and if case founds positive then CASP and NARI closely work with this identified cases and giving proper treatment and counseling for better life.

2) Enhancement of Employability :
CASP Pune Unit is implementing a project called Enhancement of Employability for the student of ITI Lonawala. It is a collaborative project with Philips India Ltd. The last three years CASP is trying to give various exposure to this students. The students are from rural area. Under this project we are working with students from seven trades like Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical Radio and TV, Mechanical Draftsman, Computer Operator, Mechanical Refrigerator and Air Conditioner, and wireman. Total 110 students are taking benefit of the project.The emphasis is given on overall development of students. Following on going topics are covered in this course. Spoken English, Personality development, Technical up-gradation, General knowledge and Health education. To get more exposures to the students besides these activities the efforts were made to give additional and advance knowledge to the students. During the years special activities were conducted for the students like Solar system training for repairing and maintenance, Entrepreneurship training, Auto CAD Training etc.

3) Foster Care Project Satara :
Last 10 years CASP Pune Unit is working in Satara district for implementing Foster Care Project; supported by Government of Maharashtra Women and Child welfare Department. Total 50 children are covered in this project. Most of these children are single parent children. This year CASP provided support for grocery, nutritious food, School fees, school uniform, medicines, etc. These children are from rural area of Satara district and they are far below than poverty line. Still scholastic performance of children is very good.

4) Foster Care Project Pune :
To replicate Satara Foster Care Project CASP, Pune Unit applied to State Govt. of Maharashtra to sanction 500 cases for Foster Care in Pune. We are glad to mentioned that recently we got sanction for 500 cases from Commissioner Women and Child Welfare Maharashtra state. Out of that CASP received funds for 100 children from December 2006 to 31 st March 2007.

5) Water filter distribution :
Most of our sponsored children are staying in slums. Whatever water they are using for drinking is not potable water. So frequency of water born diseases among the children and their family members is very high. Therefore family has to spent lot on medication and also children loose their studies. It hampers their scholastic performance. Hence CASP decided to have a orientation programme for safe drinking water and use of water filters. After this CASP decided to provide water filters to 125 sponsored families. In the month of March 2007 CASP Pune Unit distributed 125 water filters to these families in the presence of CASP honorary Secretary Mrs. Rohini Gokhale and A.C. International programme officer Mrs. Yette. Families are very happy and they are using these filters regularly.

6) Mediclaim Policy :
CASP Pune Unit has drawn a medical Insurance policy of the sponsored children. The sponsored child and their parents are covered under the policy. They will get reimbursement up to Rs.15000/- for hospitalization. The installment for Insurance policy is Rs.328/- per year per family. It is a tailor made policy by United India Insurance Co. Ltd.

7) Fieldwork placement for Swedish students :
Every year CASP Pune Unit is getting students from Sweden for fieldwork experience. This year also two batches were placed in Pune Unit. These students successful completed their fieldwork in Pune Unit.

8) Fieldwork placement for the M.S.W. students :
Students from Karve Institution of Social Services, Bharati Vidyapeeth and Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth placed in CASP Pune Unit for one year. These students completed their fieldwork and submitted the report to respective colleges. In this period the students worked with our Social Worker to know actual functioning of the organization and also done case work, group work, report writing, counseling and office routine work.

9) Placement of M.B.A. students :
University of Pune placed batch of 10 students to Pune Unit to get the exposure of working of NGO. These students were in Unit for one month. They prepared two minutes C.D. for the promotion of marketing for CASP, Pune Unit.
